Defenders of Fate do Sunwell!

February 7, 2009

kiljaedenon0As you can see by the screenshot on the left (thank you, Draeven!), we managed to complete Sunwell. It was only a fun run, since we cleared all possible raids till they unlock…

But we all managed to pick up the achievement for clearing it, and they didn’t mind me tagging along an hour late since I finish work late on a Saturday. Thanks guys!

Aside from owning old school raids, and the newer ones, we’ve been on alts a lot. Hunters, Death Knights, and our Blood Elf Paladins. With the recent changes, I’m hoping Ulduar is going to be tricky, because the game has suddenly become very, very easy. Its no fun clearing Naxxramas 25 in two nights, and having to take it easy on the other raids because we want some things left to raid at the end of the week.

Healing Meter Spam.

January 23, 2009

healing-sarthThe time has come for me to look at my healing! Last night, we went into Heroic Naxx, and I was pretty much the bottom of the healing meters… I was disappointed in myself. I’m not on the same gear standard as people in the raid, but I really shouldn’t be last. So, the time came togwynchoochoo1 boot up the healing meters and see just where I was going wrong. The meter on the left is the Sartharion fight, from tonight. I was on group healing, so I broke out the Rejuvenation and Regrowths, and a Wild Growth after his Lava Wall move. It paid off – I used a mana pot and kept on top of things, without needing to use Innervate. Now, going through the charts after the fight, I felt a little silly – Wild Growth accounted for a lot less than a quarter of my healing. The other two Druids in the group used it enough to account for nearly a half of their healing. I do like Wild Growth, but like I said in my previous post – I tend not to use it a lot for the mana-conserving reason.

healingkz2The next chart is for the Kel’Thuzad fight, and the Sapphiron fight. I did overuse Wild Growth during the Sapphiron fight, because of nerves – I hadn’t done the fight before. When we went behind the Ice Blocks, I used Wild Growth – as well as on the other healers if they got caught up in her Blizzard AoE. I learned a lot from the other Druids in this fight – especially #2 because he was on group healing as well as I was. I used Rejuvenation and less of Regrowth, as the AoE Aura on Sapphiron hurts – a lot – but Rejuvenation just seemed to keep on top of it. Kel’Thuzad is pretty straight forward, I threw Lifebloom on the offtanks and Rejuvenation around the raid, and I hit 4th. Its worth noting that #3 is our Priest who believes that the Circle of Healing nerf was a travesty and that he can’t heal… Lets hope he sees things differently now.

Tonights verdict? Pretty awesome. I’m not bottom, and I feel like I worked hard, which is always good to feel after any raid. Congratulations to Cablin on his new ring, and I also got something with badges since I won Sartharions thrifty Satchel of Spoils.

Finally!

thestaff

A massive congratulations to Cablin who snagged his Staff of Trickery today! Really – you have no idea how many times he suffered Violet Hold. I did it with him earlier since its one of my days off, and it dropped. Huzzah! He soon had it enchanted with Mongoose and ready to roll – were duoing Onyxia in a few minutes so we’ll see how much of an improvement it is.

Now, as we all know it was patch day today… Wintergrasp is down, its lagging like crazy and were playing with job changes. Wild Growth is now on a 6 second cooldown – is it hard to cope with?

In my opinion, no. I’ve gone through heroics today with no issues – the 6 second cooldown is nothing really. If it does make problems for you, then you should probably check out your rotations. Same as priest and Circle of Healing. We had a rather dramatic guildie come on and tell us he ‘might not heal the raid’ because ‘his healing was nerfed’. Uhhm… Really. If you spammed Wild Growth/Circle of Healing 4 times in 6 seconds (he said he used to) then you really need to look at what your doing. At 804 mana, Wild Growth is a monster – 4 times in 6 seconds? That’s over 3k mana on a pitiful amount of HP healed. I’m unsure what the mana cost of Circle of Healing is, but if its similar to Wild Growth then… What on earth are you thinking? Forgive me Holy Priests if its a really good way of conserving mana – I should read up on it – but really!

Moonfire has also been hit by the patch stick – the graphic looks awesome now, like a giant disco ball lighting up the sky! Since the blog name comes from the spell, it definitely deserves a mention – as well as the new 75-vanity-pet achievement. I want that salt lick. 57/75!

Update:

onyxia

Onyxia downed in 13 minutes, with Cab tanking in Cat form and me healing/nuking her down with Moonfire, Wrath and Starfire. Not too shabby!

The Tree’s are on Fire! (Water, now!)

January 20, 2009

the_trees_are_on_fireA night of raiding draws to a close, and even though the Azure Dragon Malygos got one up on us this time we pretty much have the strategy nailed – its the timing we seem to let slide. It wasn’t a bad run, and we all learned from it… Kel’Thuzad and Sartharion last night got pummeled, so all is good. The fact that our 25 man raid team earlier had 3 resto Druids led to some funny discussions, and Tfalcon (Bronze Dragonflight EU) posted the above picture on our guild forums… It got a few laughs from me and I thought I’d share.

It was actually mine and Cablins first 25 man raid, so getting Kel’Thuzad and Sartharion done was a major achievement for us – we’ve come a long way since the old days of Kara and Zul’Aman. I got my first piece of 25 man loot – Mantle of the Eternal Sentinal. Its a major upgrade from my previous blue shoulders, so I had a grin on my face that night – even Cablin didn’t leave empty handed. He got Dragon Hide Bag!

Quick update!

January 20, 2009

Just a quickie – expect a much bigger update as of tomorrow. Were back from holiday and already rockin’ the Heroic 25 man raid content with <Defenders of Fate>, a guild an old friend of ours initiated us into.

I’ll get back to you tomorrow, and also for Halcyon@Heartstation – I’ll get it to you ASAP! /cuddle
